Bluetooth range extender

I am after an "in vehicle" bluetooth range extender that will allow me to
leave the handset in the car kit (taking advantage of better reception
signal) but to use the headpiece over a longer range. Does anything like
this exist? I have seen units for offices that are almost "bluetooth
repeaters" but they require 110 or 220 volts.
