Default Bluetooth, PPC and Windows XP

Bear with me; I know this question sounds similar to others, but I've tried the other solutions presented and nothing's worked yet -- I'm very new to the whole wireless thing:

I have an HP IPaq h1940, WinXP and a Belkin Bluetooth adapter. The devices see each other -- setup was pretty simple. I can even establish a file transfer connection between the IPaq and my PC and move things back and forth.

What I can't seem to do is ActiveSync or establish a practical virtual serial connection using bluetooth. I can "establish a serial connection" that shows up under Windows Mobile 2003 as an outgoing connection, or initiate an incoming one from the PC that shows on both as well. But I can't seem to do anything once it's established (ActiveSync or otherwise).

As far as ActiveSync goes, the IPaq thinks it's establishing a connection, insomuch as it finds the PC, connects, and displays a "connected" blip, but the PC's ActiveSync program shows nothing.

Of course, the only thing I'd really like to do is wirelessly hit the web on the IPaq from around the house (and an ActiveSync should let me do that). If anyone knows any other workarounds, let me know. My firewall (BlackIce) doesn't seem to make a difference. Does it? I've tried messing with com ports, but if the devices see each other and connect, that shouldn't be a problem either... right?

Any help would be appreciated. I can provide any other info you need.

I'm not too familiar with ActiveSync, but FWIW, you might want to check what ports AS is listening to. That's my best and only guess.

if you really want to share an internet connection between your ipaq and your computer, all you have to do is establish ICS (internet connection sharing) and then set-up a network connection between your ipaq and your computer.
