Question USB Extension for BT dongle problems

Hi,

I have a strange problem. I need my BT reciever to be in my lounge and therefore require an extention of about 5 meters which I have installed.
The problem is that when windows restarts, the dongle is not visible to the computer as though it wasnt plugged in. If i remove the dongle from the end of the extension and replace it back at the end of the extension lead nothing happens. HOWEVER if i unplug the extension cable from the usb port and then reconnect, the BT reciever is located.

This seems very strange, why must the cable be disconnected from the usb port, I would have thought that if I unplugged the reciever from the end of the extension that would have been enough.

Anyways the problem is that I cannot turn my computer off without having to unlug the extension and reconnect afterward.

any suggestions please, this is my second dongle(samething happens with the other one) and before i buy anything else

The max length for a USB cable is 5 meters. Is your "5 meter extension" built out of many cables or just one?

There are USB extenders that use Cat5 cable (and therefore can go up to 100 feet (~33m)):

Good luck
