Question Peer to peer bluetooth networking

Hello to all

Please can someone help i am think of investing in a bluetooth network but i need to know if there are a few things it can do before i invest in one.

Right here goes

Basically i have 2 machines 1 laptop and one server and what i want to know is it possible to link the 2 machines together as if they were on an ethernet network i.e. can i map drives to one and other. Also can i setup internet connection sharing on my server so that my laptop can connect to this and be able to access the net over bluetooth.

Your help would be much appreicated

Thanks in advance

Scott

Once you use internet connection sharing, its as though you are on a LAN with the other computers. SMB (aka Windows Networking) works just fine over it. It's a bit like Wi-Fi, except for the authentication requirements (pairing). So, like Wi-Fi, but more secure. There are plenty of threads on how to set up networking over Bluetooth here.

Here's one of them: http://www.wifi-forum.com/wf/showthread.php?t=192

Any Bluetooth dongles that support the PAN profile. I recommend Class 1 (type, not brand) for a range of 100m. If you don't need that much range, go for the class 2 (only 10m).

In short, whichever ones support the most profiles. I recommend ones that use the Widcomm stack, since it provides a nice "My Bluetooth Places" widget for Windows, but its not necessary.

Computers in a peer to peer network run the same networking protocols and software. Peer networks are also often situated physically near to each other, typically in homes, small businesses or schools. Some peer networks, however, utilize the Internet and are geographically dispersed worldwide.

yes, it is true that computers in p2p network run on same network protocols and uses same software. if you want a p2p connection then systems need to be present in a closed area means, Near to each other.
