Default baracoda modules

I emailed Baracoda for some clarifaction about their modules, but as they haven't got back to me yet, I thought I could ask the same question here since some people might be familiar with their modules.

They say:

API / Host driver
This part guarantees an efficient interface of the device with any host. It can be supplied as a stand alone client software as well as a full API.

My question:
What does this really mean in terms of software development? As a full API, can you do a lot more? Does this choice between a stand alone and a full API module influence the cost?

Thanks in advance!!!

I think the difference between the Standalone and the API things is that Baracoda tends to specialize in the SPP, if you want something outside of that (or something that is otherwise not well suited to Serial communications) you may want to implement your own Profile (check the Bluetooth.org standards!!!).

But I'm not sure. I'm very curious as to the answer for that question, so, when they get back to you, please post their answer here.

Thanks

Sorry for delay, but they took a while to get back to me. Here's what they say:

SmartModules are not an end-user product, and thus we have not developed a generic stand-alone client software for them. We can develop it from the existing one for our products and the dll we made for connectivity issues.

When you buy SmartModules we provide you with a licence of our dll and our embedded software for each sold SmartModules. The development of a full stand-alone client software dedicated to your needs is charged as a NRE.
