Default Bluetooth

Hi,

I have to start a new project which is a wireless
data acqusition system. I have to collect data from numerous sensors
positioned in a revolving cage using wireless link. More specific I
have to be able to collect data either to a Palm device having a
blue tooth or a to a PC which is interfaced with a microcontroller
via a usb or RS232.The Microncontroller on the other side is
interfaced to a wireless link (bluetooth) that will collect data
from the sensors.

Simply

Sensors--Wireless-->Blueetooth-->Microcontroller-->PC/Palm Device

So any clues where to start with would be really helpful for me.

Thanks,
Raghu

Then you probably would be best off getting some Bluetooth modules. There are several manufacturers and distributors. Since you are already considering using Serial connections, you probably are best served by using the SPP (Serial Port Profile).

HTH,

Hi,

Yes can you please suggest some manufactures or distributors which are really cheaper and best. I have to still think about interfacing my sensors to these bluetooth modules. But my first target in the project is i have to get temperature from all the sensor samples individually.

Thanks,
raghu

The only manufacturer I have any real experience with is Baracoda. They know the SPP like the back of their hand from their barcoding work.

There's a programmable wireless router from Possio that can be programmed in Java using the JSR-82 APIs. It's very easy to write your own Bluetooth apps in Java. If you visit the Possio Devzone at http://devzone.possio.com you will find more info about it.

There will be an BT SPP client example app soon.

Every hardware has a software associated with it. Most of the drivers are available in Windows but, in some cases you have to externally install a driver for a bluetooth.
