Default bluetooth evaluation boards

I noticed that some companies sell evaluation boards together with OEM modules, for example Baracoda. I'm wondering if these boards are necessary to establish a wireless link between modules, or they just make the development easier?

Thanks in advance!

They make the development easier since you can test things via the COM port. You do not need them for the end use (and they would be a bad idea, since COM ports just kill batteries.
