Connect my Clie via USB to my cellphone?

Hi all.

I've got a Sony CLie UX50, but my cell (Moto V300) does not have bluetooth. I do have the data cable for it though. The data cable terminates in a standard USB. My Clie has a 'mini usb'. If I can get a USB1 to mini usb adapter, can I hook up the Clie to my cell for data connections, or will i need to get a Bluetooth adapter for my cell (until I can get a new cell)?
