Newbie Needs Help --installing Bluetooth

Ok, I have had a look at some of the threads on here, I'm WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY outta my depth but I'm gonna ask for help anyway.

Just got myself samsung d500, my first ever moby with bluetooth. Off I go to buy a dongle.
I follow the installation instructions to the letter.
So I have to get it turned on & set the settings, add the device etc.
Only prob is when I click on the "my bluetooth places" icon, nothing happens. so I cant turn it on/set the settings/add device, nothing.
I have tried accessing it from every place I can think of.
I have been on with this for a week, I've un-installed & re-installed like a gazillion times.
Please help this techno numpty, where the hell am I going wrong??!!

... not sure what the other player is in ur bt link. i am new myself but have been able to link my pda to other puters. to set up the link i double click bt places, then click on find devices, and find services available from that device, then create a short cut for that service, i.e. file transfer. double click the shortcut and ur off and running.
