Default Netowrking Help - 2 NIC's - one computer

Here is my scenario and what I want to do:

I have a desktop with a wireless PCI Card and an on-board ethernet port. I am using the wireless connection for my desktop. The ethernet port is not being used.

I have an XBOX near my desktop. If I don't have to, I don't want to buy the XBOX wireless adapter. Can I use the port on my computer in anyway to get my XBOX onto the network? The idea in mind is to have that port act like a hub, so the router could assign the XBOX an IP also.

Using XP Pro, Linksys WRT54G Router with Sveasoft Firmware.

Thanks.

I think you are trying to do what I did. If you are, I have the soulution.

Purchase a crossover cable and plug it in from your unused NIC card in your computer to the Xbox. Then create a netowrk bridge and Bridge your wireless connection and your Lan connection.

Search on XP Help if you don't know how to create a Netowrk Bridge.

You may have to force one or both of the connections into compatibility mode to get the bridge to work. If you do that you may also need to delete the bridge and create a new one.

For more info on that read this "Bridge May Not Work With a Non-Promiscuous Mode Network Adapter":

a lot of what you are trying to do may well depend on if you have a chipped xbox or not, if you are wanting to use a tunnelling application such as xlink Kai or if you want to go for xbox live.

If you are using xlink Kai www.teamxlink.co.uk and a chipped xbox (this is perfectly legal as all it does is allows you to play system link games over the internet, not make illegal copies of games) set your xbox's IP to a static addres that will match the rest of your network, then set the NIC on your PC to a static IP address too. You should not need to bridge the connection, in fact if your wireless card does not support Promiscuous Mode then you will loose all network connectivity. What xlink Kai will do is automatically bridge the connection for you.

If you are wanting to use xbox live, you will find all the information you require from their website www.xboxlive.com.

Either way you need a cross over cable you can get one of these from places like www.aria.com
