Bluetooth dongle problem - system freezes
I have the Actiontec Bluetooth BTM200 dongle. I am using the driver that
came on the CD, Actiontec has provided no update. Driver is WIDCOMM,
6/17/2003, version 1.4.2.8.
It has been a pretty big nightmare getting it installed right. But when I
do get it installed right, I have another problem - system freezes
sometimes. Freezes go away if I take out the dongle.
Maybe the problem is because my system is heavily loaded with USB devices.
I have a DFI AD77 Infinity motherboard, Via KT400 chipset. It has 4 USB2
ports on the rear panel, and additional motherboard header to connect to
front panel ports. I thought front panel ports were USB2 as well, but they
perform only as USB 1.1.
Anyway right now I have connected to the four rear panel USB2 ports: USB2
4-port powered hub, USB 1.1 7-port powered hub, scanner, and now the
Bluetooth dongle. Previously I had the dongle in a hub, but am trying
putting directly in the rear panel port to see if that helps.
In USB2 4-port powered hub, I have connections to printer, CF card reader,
and a webcam (moved from rear panel).
In USB 1.1 7-port powered hub, I have mouse, microphone, Palm cradle,
scanner #2, card reader #2. Sometimes I plug in a USB thumb drive too.
So you can see my motherboard USB ports have a fairly heavy load. I don't
know if that's the cause or not.
Not sure if my motherboard USB drivers need updating or not. Currently I
have Via USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller, 9/9/02, ver. 5.1.2600.1106.
I am running WinXP SP2.
Recently I put in a new heatsink on CPU - CPU now running much cooler, 42C.
I tried a Trendware dongle, same problem, took it back. Today I bought a
Q-Stor dongle, haven't opened the package yet.
Any ideas? Any drivers I should try? Put in a PCI USB2 adapter? Is there
a better place where I should be asking this question?
thanks for any help!
