Question Bluetooth Passcode

I'm connecting an iPAQ H2210 handheld PC to a Nokia 6310i mobile phone. The H2210 can see the phone but is asking for a passcode.

I can't find anything to suggest there's a passcode on the H2210. Could it be a code that's on the phone?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

the passcode is set on the 6310i. it is a way of authenication. say, you and your friend agreed that the passcode is "1234", then both of you use the same passcode to authenticate. it prevent anybody else with a bluetooth device in your vicinity to hijaak your device/data.

Thanks for the response.

So, would the passcode be the security PIN for the phone, or would it be a separate code that has to be set up?

Couldn't see anything in the instruction manual for the phone about a passcode.

i am not sure. the phone i played with last time, a Sony T68i, it was a separate code. when i tried to connect my T3 PDA to my PC, XP asked me to enter a separate code too. so likely it will be a separate one.

even though it *could* be the same as the security PIN, i doubt so.

FWIW, the code itself doesn't matter as long as both sides agree. With "smart" devices like PDAs, phones, computers, they don't have a set passcode. However, for "dumb" embedded devices, they have a set passcode (although it can almost always be reset in firmware).
