Why doesn't my Palm (Tungsten T) connect to TMO via V330 Bluetooth?

This doesn't seem to be just me. On Howard Forums everyone says that
same thing, that for some reason the Tungstens won't connect to
T-Mobile via bluetooth, not just on the V330 but others as well.
Supposively, Cingular (booo!) works fine. I successfully connect via my
PowerBook with no problems with the $5.99 plan.

I've applied what I think are the necessary patches to make the
Tungsten up to date. There were two main families, one that turned the
icon in the connection dialog to a light yellow instead of a pixelized
grey, and another that added a Universal GSM choice for the driver.

But before the patches, after the patches, and in all combinations, the
connection dialog hangs while making the connection. I know it's
starting because the phone lights up, but it never actually makes a
connection.

What's wrong? Do I need a special dial string? Another driver?

I spent a good 4 hours updating the drivers on my Palm T5 and still
cannot connect to T-Mo's GPRS thru my V3's Bluetooth!!
It sucks!

Have you asked T-Mobile if this service is available? Some
of the cell companies have disabled access to the Internet
via Bluetooth. For example, on Verizon phones with bluetooth
capability, bluetooth can be used for headsets but not for
Inet connections from other Bluetooth devices. Verizon says
they have disabled this function for security purposes. You
need a cable connection to use a Verizon phone over the
Inet.

If you're downloading apps and content to your phone any other way other
than using your phone to purchase VZ content, they make no money.

Verizon is about to settle a big class action regarding the disabling of BT

In my case ( tmobile ) I pay flat fee for access to all of the internet not
just WAP end of it
yea then they may not be willing to let me download allot of content.
Tmobile really does not care how I connect to my phone and what im
connecting
palmpilot, laptop, fax machine or CHA-30 chatpen
they don't always make it easy for me to help with figuring how to connect
to my phone
(especialy that I did not get it from them)



But you say if your VZ phone is _not_ used to "purchase" content (ringtones
I'm guessing ? )
than you get away with _not_ paying for it ?
Am I getting it right?

So how about advertisment I saw on TV about VZ's brodband speed connection
for wireless?
why would you need that for your phone?

I can use my Verizon StarTac to download anything I want
using a cable connection and without any additional payment
to Verizon. I have not yet upgraded to a Verizon Bluetooth
enabled phone only because I cannot use BT in place of the
cable connection.

They state the lawsuit has been settled, but no information
on the settlement is yet available. I'm not interested in
any financial compensation, first because I don't have a
V710 yet, but mostly because that does not solve the
problem. I hope the settlement includes an agreement that
Verizon will no longer block BT on the V710.

Yes, ringtones and apps and wallpaper, etc.

But no, what I'm saying is that if you download stuff to your phone using
Bluetooth or a data cable, Verizon doesn't make money on that download. The
only way they make money is by you purchasing GetItNow! content from them.
That's their incentive for disabling some Bluetooth functionality (and, for
that matter, possibly disabling the ability to download stuff via a data
cable, though I don't know whether they've done that).

To hook it up to a laptop, I assume. They have data cards that do EVDO
(broadband) speeds too.

Yeahbut, that's to be expected, StarTACs can't download GetItNow! content
anyhow. None of the StarTACs were able to do custom ringtones or graphics
and certainly not downloadable applications. The last StarTAC I remember VZW
selling was the 7868W. You could make calls and do text messaging with it.
And I'm not even sure about text messaging...

I have been told by Verizon that the V710 can be used in
data/fax mode with a cable connection. They have only
disabled Bluetooth. They claim this was for "security."

Yes, the ST7868W can do two-way text messaging if you have
installed the on-line firmware upgrades.

No, as far as I know nobody in the world has been successful or even
has any useful information.

It works nicely with my PowerBook via BT though, so it's not disabled.

And Palms will work via BT with Cingular service on a V551, which is
essentially the same phone.
