Eztalker connected to Windows XP w/ slight problem

I have semi-successfully connected by Tekkeon eZTalker bluetooth headset to my laptop using a Belkin CF/PCMCIA bluetooth card. The items paired and an audio gateway was established. The problem is the sound that comes through the headset it very distant and garbled. Has anyone experienced this problem? Any suggestions on how to correct it?
