Question connecting 2 routers

Hi

i would like to hookup my xbox to my netgear wireless network, i have a limited budget.

after checking ebay they sell routers and access points for about the same price.

just the wireless bridges cost abit more than i would like to spend.

here is my questions

1) Can you hookup to routers together the netgear mr314 (got already) with another one ie netgear mr814.

2) do different makes of wireless networking equipment work with each other ie linksys and netgear etc etc.

Thanks in advance
Terry
