Comcast Modem/Wireless router Hang - Help
Greetings,
I apologise in advance if this has been covered but I have two friends beating on me for a solution.
Both <1> and <2> have comcast broadband service and modems. <1> has a belkin wireless router (801.11g) and the <2> has a linksys wireless router. I <3> have a DSL modem and same router as <2>.
<1> and <2> hang repeatedly (about once per week) but <3> runs fine. Therefore I suspect it is the comcast service doing something non-compliant - possible with their dynamic IP switching.
Comcast has been useless. When you call in they say to cycle power on the modem and router. Other than not addressing the problem of why the setups hang, it is impractical with <1> since it is not accessible.
Recently a Comcast tech showed up at <2> when it was hung and instead of acutally diagnosing the problem told my friend to download new software for the router. Of course that didn't work but it did allow the tech to escape the house without doing anything useful.
questions for the forum?
A. Anybody have experience with this?
B. Any ideas of useful diagnostic that would reveal why the setups hang?
C. Would new modems with integrated wireless access help?
D. Would paying for static IP Help?
E. ???? other suggestions.
If I can't get this to work with Comcast Cable broadband I will recommend <1> and <2> go with QWest DSL but that has its problems too.
Thanks in advance for your time to read this and, hopefully, respond. I'd love to give <1> and <2> working systems for Christmas!!!
Regards, s7pete.
