bluetooth dial-up

Hello all. I'm trying to connect via bluetooth to my Ericsson T616 phone and dial my ISP to establish an internet connection. Everything seems to work, except when I get to the dialing part. I watch the phone dial the number in sync with the laptop screen showing a dialing dialog. Then the phone hangs up, and the computer responds that "the remote computer did not respond." To be sure, I dialled the ISP's phone number manually and it instantly rings into their modem. I tried a dozen other numbers, but no dice. Again, the connectivity with the phone is there. I have done other things like transfer files and such. And the phone actually tries to dial out, but..... What am I doing wrong here? I've been searching the web for answers for three hours now. My assumption is that my provider (AT&T wireless) has some sort of data transfer protocol that I need to set up (ie. pay for), and it knows the difference between a voice and a data call. All the FAQ's I've read about doing this sort of connection don't mention anything about this, though. Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated!
