Default PDA sees bluetooth adapter but not network

I just installed a Belkin Bluetooth USB adapter on my PC running XP and the Bluetooth card on my Toshiba e355. All the software and drivers are up to date. The PC and the Toshiba see each other but the PDA cannot access the internet or other information on the PC. I believe the problem is on the PC, which is not recognizing the Bluetooth "network". The little network icon in the system tray has a red X through it and the label "network cable is unplugged". Nothing is unplugged. I should mention that the computer gets Internet through a cable modem via Ethernet connection and is also WiFi networked through a Netgear router to another computer in the house. Is it that the two networks (wifi and bluetooth) can't live with each other? Do I have to disconnect the WiFi network to make the Bluetooth network work? Is there some way the two networks can share a connection that I can't figure out? I am going insane trying to figure this out!

if you are not successful, let me see if we can get it working for you.

it was rather cool when we got that to work...

Before I try all that, I will first try unplugging my adapter from the USB hub I just bought and replug it directly into the PC's USB port. If that doesn't work, I'll try messing with the IP addresses as outlined in that thread. This should be waaaay easier, shouldn't it?

I've given up. I've tried it all to no avail. It seems Windows doesn't like Bluetooth to begin with and with my 802.11 network already running, I'll probably just relent and get a new PDA that is wifi compatible. Thanks for your suggestion.

You might want to try editing the permissions on your Bluetooth Services.

Go to My Bluetooth Places... My Device. There should be an option called "Network Access". Is it set to startup... Automatic?

Oh, and WiFi is a real power drain versus Bluetooth. Just FYI.

Hi,

Can you please tell me how did you pair it with your laptop? I tried but I couldn't.

Thanks

Hi,
You can connect to your PC and share your Internet connection with no additional software added to your PC or Palm using a Bluetooth USB Adapter. I’m using a Palm Tungsten |T, Palm Tungsten |T3 and LifeDrive with Win XP and I’ve setup both the Belkin F8T001 and F8T003 adapters (not at the same time though). This Bluetooth setup guide can be very helpful for the Tungsten |T5, Tungsten |TX as well as the Zire 72, Treo 650,Tungsten E2 and LifeDrive. The menus on these devices might look different than what is in my guide below, but the settings are ultimately the same. I would only recommend buying a Class 1 adapter from any manufacturer. There is no reason to limit your range with a Class 2 or 3 adapter.
