Default Bluetooth Networking Via Pictbridge?

Hi all, thanks for taking the time to read this post. It's kinda a long shot, but if there are any experts out there then please post your comments in reply.

I have a Canon MP500 all in one printer. It isn't an actual network printer itself. But I know there is an option to use a bluetooth print server to get it connected wirelessly to my computer. I don't specifically want to shell out for one of these as having the printer wireless isn't essential, but would be nice if an idea I have can work somehow....

I have a little USB adapter that switches the normal USB square socket on the back of the printer to a regular rectangular USB port, which physically allows a normal bluetooth adapter/dongle to be attached to it. Just as a print server would. Now I do realise that Print servers wouldn't exist if a bluetooth dongle alone could network the printer, and so the fact that no light/power goes to the dongle further confirms this for me.

Then just out of curiosity, I connected the bluetooth dongle to the front of my printer, where I have a USB pictbridge port for connecting cameras etc. directly for printing. When I did this the L.E.D. on the dongle/adapter lit up and when I searched for devices in range on my computer it found the printer and identified it correctly but failed to make a complete connection to it.

Now if I understand the pictbridge technology correctly, if your printer is enabled with it, then your printer can technically replace your Pc as a host and allows USB deviced to upload data (pictures etc.) to it and so I guess the printer could hav some sort of internal memory to go along with it? correct me if i'm wrong here!

Further, the fact the bluetooth dongle received power from this port (and didn't from the regular port) and the fact that my computer found and identified the device must mean something. This gives the impression that the pictbridge port/technology can provide or serve as a more general communication portal (other than just connecting to cameras). I don't have one of these new fancy wireless cameras to wirelessly send pictures to the computer or the printer even if it was natively wirelessly enabled, I'm purely interested in networking the PC and printer together with this dongle and maybe once it's established, for my laptop and Pocket PC. (without getting a print server!)

So, If you haven't already guessed. My question is, is what I want theoritcally possible. can do pictbridge port be exploited in this way? If so please give me some ideas to try. There is always a manual hack when it comes to this sorta thing, I just need someone a little more knowledeable in this fied than myself!

I appreciate your time and I hope this raises some interest for some fellow nerds!
