As was mine. She sent a text to one of those 8xxxx text numbers,
offering her a free <pop band> ringtone, with no mention in the 1/2
page girls magazine ad of any terms and conditions, even in microdot
font, and she was ripped off for 10's of pounds, with unsolicited
further texts coming it at £1.50 a go.
The network provider couldn't give a toss (just give us the money....)
when I rang them to try and get the texts blocked, and the rip-off
merchants were harder to get hold of than Elvis.
Personally I'd rather pick up random second hand syringes off the
streets and stick them into my eyeballs rather than deal with a 'Free'
ringtone company, and I advise everyone I meet and know to do the
same.
If your are a ringtone company, and feel I am being harsh, then I
suggest you get yourselves regulated, and if you are reputable, then
do something about the piss-takers.
My daughters pay-as-you-go (thank god, if it was contract god knows
how much money would have been stolen from her-yes STOLEN) is her
lifeline to call me if she ever needs her dad, and I abhor her credit
being STOLEN to the point where she cannot make an outgoing call.
