Bluetooth Notification Area Icon Disappearing...

Hi, I have a Trust Bluetooth dongle, which works perfectly. I use it
to connect a Logitech Laser Mouse and an LG L600V, the latter thru its
own software. Never had a problem. Lately, the bluetooth icon which
used to sit in the system tray (notification area) is gone. I have
checked the registry and the relative key is set to 1.

If I open bluetooth thru the control panel, I uncheck > apply > check
> apply, the icon reappears and works perfectly, until the next
restart, where it's gone again...

Considering:

- SSPD Discovery Service is Disabled
- UPNP Service is Disabled
- Registry Key is set to 1

Any suggestions?

It could be a bug in Windows. When my Windows Explorer crashes it takes out
the minimised icon of the Task Manager in the system tray (notification
area). Even when re-started (and minimised) the TM still disppears until
Windows is rebooted.

This sounds a lot like your problem.

I take it a restart temporarily fixes the problem?...

Hi, the problem sounds very similar, but the other way around. If I
disable > enable it stays... as soon as I restart, it goes away
again...

The funny thing is that upon restart, the icon is gone, but the "Show
Icon" thing is checked in the bluetooth properties...

Try re-installing the BT s/w or Windows.

See, the trust s/w is pretty messed up... I installed once, then
immediately removed it... Reinstalling OS is definetely a no-no: I
haven't reinstalled in about 3-4 yrs (about from 1 yr after xp came
out...). I have 51 disabled services, I norton ghost everyday and the
system boots up in 51/52 seconds, with a/v, firewall, getright,
topdesk, etc... installed at bootup...

As u said, it's probably an OS glitch and, since I can access the
settings thru cpl and everything connects and works flawlessly, I'll
let it be until I eventually come up with a solution...

I have this golden rule: "If it works, don't fix it!". Being tempted
by having everything just perfect is normal, the problems, headaches,
heartburns deriving from that are, most of the times, not worth it...

Hi, again! I solved it! I remembered I have a program from
sysinternals called processexplorer and run it before playing with the
enable/disable thing in the control panel...

If I run the following command line on startup:

"C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe"
bthprops.cpl,,BluetoothAuthenticationAgent

I get the icon in the system tray with usual/full functionality...
