Question Headset to Headset

I'm a non tech person with absolutely no knowledge of how bluetooth works, so if this gives you a laugh enjoy.

If I buy 2 bluetooth headsets and switch them on within close proximity will 2 people be able to communicate between the 2 headsets just like a walkie-talkie?

TIA

AFAIK, the headsets are "dumb" or "slave" members in any given Bluetooth connection. They need a "smart" or "master" device to connect to them, since they do not know how to initiate a connection.

Then again, I've never used a Bluetooth headset, so YMMV

There may be a way to trick the two into connecting to each other, but it would require hardware address spoofing (not hard if you have access to a Bluetooth transcever on a laptop) and faking the authentication packets (trickier).

No walkie talkies, sorry.

A headset to headset connection would allow me to communicate with my passenger while on my motorcycle. Any suggestions on a "smart" intermediate module that would allow such a walkie talkie conversation? Most motorcycle intercom equipment require you to be wired to the cycle. The bluetooth intercoms are expensive and require a module to be wired into the bike. Would rather just carry the equipment seperate from the bike.

Last January at CES I saw a product that might work for you. Motorola had a variation of the HS830 that was designed specifically for motorcycle riders to attach to their helmet. I don't think its available for sale yet, but should be in the next few months.

Thanks for the lead. I see the HS830 runs about $90. Much better that the $350 to $600 units I'd found on the net so far.
